Every life is shaped by the spaces between
The Space Between began as a different work entirely, titled Black Currant Current. The original painting featured a raised black form flowing through a field of black, surrounded by waves of white, blue, and purple. Embedded within the elevated surface is a subtle shimmer of blue and violet that remains visible today.
Unsatisfied with the direction of the piece, I began painting over the original composition. As a fine mist of blue-gray settled across the canvas, unexpected details from Black Currant Current emerged beneath the surface. Rather than disappearing, the earlier painting revealed itself in new and intriguing ways.
From that transformation, The Space Between was born. The painting captures a sense of tension and movement, suggesting unseen forces beneath calm surfaces. Hidden traces of its previous life remain throughout the work, creating depth, mystery, and discovery. Look closely, and the elevated black surface still catches the light with a faint twinkle—a quiet reminder of the painting that came before.
