Michael Hewlett

Michael is a cancer and heart attack survivor whose artwork is rooted in resilience, emotion, and the beauty found in imperfection. Through layers of color, texture, and abstraction, his paintings explore feelings that are often difficult to express with words alone. Michael believes that perfection is an illusion. The textures, variations, and unexpected elements within each piece are intentional reflections of life itself—complex, imperfect, and deeply human. Rather than hiding imperfections, he embraces them as part of the story. The name Yatzi comes from Michael’s Chihuahua, whom he adopted from the county animal shelter. The dog already carried the unusual name, and it remained.  Over time, “Yatzi” became more than a beloved companion’s name; it became the artistic identity behind the work. Each painting created under the Yatzi name is an invitation to pause, reflect, and discover a personal connection within the work. Yatzi Studio & Gallery is founded on a simple belief: our lives are imperfect, our stories are unfinished, and there is beauty in both.
